Ο Δ. Τσιχριτζής έκανε το διδακτορικό του σε Computer Science το 1968 στο Princeton (thesis: Partially solvable and almost solvable problems). Εάν δεν κάνω λάθος είναι ο πρώτος Έλληνας με διδακτορικό στο χώρο, πράγμα που μπορεί να πει κανείς πως τον κάνει τον “γεννάρχη” των Ελλήνων Πληροφορικών. Με δεδομένη τη 40χρονη (πολυσχιδή) πορεία του στο χώρο, είναι πάντα ενδιαφέρον να διαβάζει κανείς τις απόψεις του, όπως σε αυτή τη συνέντευξη που έδωσε στο ODBMS Industry Watch.

Ιδιαίτερα μου άρεσαν οι απαντήσεις του στη 13η ερώτηση:

UW-IMAP utilities and restrictBox mode

Note to self:

When using the UW-IMAP toolkit in restrictBox or closedBox modes, or even with local patches, it is helpful to have a “vanilla” version of the utilities around, for they may not work as expected. It took me a while to figure out why

mailutil prune `pwd`/Trash “before 18-may-2008”

was not working as expected. Our local version was linked with a c-client.a with restrictBox = -1 and a local version of getpwnam(3).

Thank you Pucciplast!

For our WC we use a Pucciplast ECO built-in tank. It has a clever design and it saves space. However, the plate that holds the flush buttons got damaged. We tried to replace it by contacting the dealer that we bought it in the first place. Unfortunately they were no longer working with their products.

So I turned to Pucciplast and asked them whether I could buy directly two chromium covered cover plates (one to replace the broken one, and one for the future, just in case). Within a day Pucciplast replied that they could not sell us directly the product. However, they would sent us two plates free of charge. Now this is what I call customer support! We were asked to photograph the broken one and send the photo back to them. Which we did.

Today I installed the new cover plate. So there:
